Typhoon and my very first encounter.

Imagine u get up in the morning, look outside and looks like a typical rainy day. U decide to take the cab to office coz u dun wana get wet. Get into one and driver says surcharge for typhoon. So u think to urself, well people are walking on the streets so it must not be tat bad, so u say ok to the driver...

U drive past the harbour, the water's almost the same level as the road. U see the city empty; totally like a scene from a movie. U reach the office and realise everything is close. Starbucks closed; and they tryin to hoard the entrances...and u see at the lift lobby: Typhoon No.8!!!

Thats the thing u dun get! if its bloody major, why werent there an SMS system to alert people. Apparently i was to tune to the radio stations (which by the way are all in chinese!!) ... well, i survived this harrowing experience by taking refuge in my office till the typhoon cleared...

[HK] MacBook Pro

Yeah, rumors abound abt the impending update of the Macbook Pro. But oh so no choice. Was contemplating abt just the MacBook... and was trying 2 get the student discount (if ur a student, u get a discount + an iPod touch... how unfair is that?)

HK! Love it; live it? Is that their tagline? Not really sure. Well, Im finally up and running after 3 weeks staying in HK. First few weeks were the most handicapped i felt with no laptop so no access to internet. So strange not being able to do something you are so used to it. So how's HK? Since Ive been here coming to my 4th week, of course, like any other cities, there will be somethings you like and dislike. So here im gona try to list them down:

LIKES:
1) People queue up on the escalators on the MTR; they keep to one side amazingly.
2) Shopping!!! Everything about it I simply love. its cheaper here; and the shops are bloody amazing.
3) IKEA!...yeah love everything about Ikea, and since u have one here, i love it even more. Though, i wont settled down here, if ever i needed to, u betcha ill furnish my place with their stuffs.

DISLIKE:
1) People do bash in during peak hours on the trains,guess its de same everywhere.
2) HOT! HOT! I sweat so much just walking to the train stations. I gather this has to do with so much concrete; and it just retains the heat...and not much of a breeze.
3) Food!! I mean I can buy groceries and cook myself, but sometimes im plain lazy (and yes theres only so much sardines one can eat!! lolz)

I can go on; but lets just put the likes/dislikes to be equal for now. Coz i love the city; but aint so much the work! ... thats a whole new blog in itself...

Kitchen Design

How to design?
Get inspired!! Basically, i kinda knew what i wanted and coz i can do beautiful 3D renderings, i got to tweak the colors to my liking...Having said that though, as i had mentioned, the cabinets were from ikea (more on the reasons later). They do have this cool 3D software for you to make your design and its a lot like Lego. Best, you can get the people at Ikea to help you out

Why Ikea?
Plain simple: i walked into those expensive designer kitchen showrooms, opened the cabinet doors and realised that it's the same bloody quality you can find at Ikea. NO JOKE.. and the mechanism is the same! (..after a chat with one of the Ikea staffs on tat, they mentioned that Ikea buy from this supplier in bulk and u save money!!!) and best its configurable to ur liking... and seriously, who cant resist walking through Ikea on a weekend!!!

I was invited to Sydney to Wilkhahn's Centennial Celebration. It was an all-expense paid trip again (Man! Arent i a lucky fella?!!!) SO the story goes that this will be a Grand Ball with a proper black tie affair, and what do I know about a tuxedo?!! I didnt even attend my prom nite (yes, the rebel in me said no, no,no...) My initial thought was where the hell am i gonna get a tuxedo; and since ill be gone for awhile, should i rent or buy. And I had a week to make all these decisions. In the end, I rented a tux from a bridal shop from Tanjong Pagar (not the best design; but i was desperate)

I have to tell this part of the story coz neva in my life has a limousine picked me up from the airport. It was supacool. And the hotel was spectacular! ... and u cant go wrong in Sydney which i simply luv!!!!

After the Sydney trip, the next morning I took a flight to Manila flying Jetstarasia. This is the first time I flew on a budget air and to say the least it was an interesting experience. The boading pass was like a bus ticket but bigger (to be honest, I could have printed on my own printer and they wont know the difference) Checkin through customs, I was led to a separate room where they weighed my hand luggage. Pretty strict, but I guess they dont wana carry too much onboard. The 3.5hrs flight was uneventful... u had to pay for food, drinks.. etc.

Arriving in Manila was kinda daunting coz the airport was strange for a first-timer like myself. After 15mins of confusion, did i then realize where people were supposed to wait to pick up people; down a ramp which i tot was to the subway but was actually the meeting points. there were a sea of people. Apart from that, it was hot in manila, and kinda chaotic. Once u get to the city center, aint much different than spore ( i think manila's nicer).. aircon and comfy, security guards checkin ur bags at the doors...

Yet another holiday for me; life seems to be one BIG holiday for me. I sure aint complaining. A family trip to Sydney; all seven of us from spore. Well here i am updating the blog after a long period of absence..

These pix were taken while i was in hongkong. i kinda didnt wana put up these pix coz i didnt wana remind myself of what happened while i was in HK.The thing is tat while i was in HK i dreamt tat my brother passed away...and lo and behold, when i returned to spore, he passed away. I actually promised myself to be nicer to him when i returned. Funny thing was a day later when i got back, after movies at abt 1am, we coincidentally came home together at the same time. As always, i ignored him and thought nothin of it. Next day, my mom woke me up askin me to drive her to the hospistal . I thought nothing of it even tho my mom told me the nurse refused to tell her wat had happened and why my bro was admitted there...

Anyways, there were more fotos of my trip to HK and my old fone tat was unbelievably stolen during my late bro's wake... honestly speakin, i cant believe such thing can happen during such an occasion, but as always, things happened for a reason.

[NYC] Chelsea INternational Hostel

A glimpse of the place I stayed for the entire duration I was in NYC: Chelsea International Hostel.Darn cheap at US$30 per nite; and in a central location. If you do the math, that's like US$300 for the entire length I was there; that's what some hotels go for per nite. I was seriously considering splurging on a nice place on the last night, but the thought of the hassle having to carry my luggage, etc (well, mostly laziness..hehe) made me stay there all the way. Would I recommend this place this? Hell yeah! If you are on a tight budget like I was, it was truly a wise choice. Of course, its not for everyone: staying with strangers can be daunting. Lucky me, all the people that was in my room.Leme see: 1 yugoslavian seaman with the stinkiest feet,2 french guys (one of whom had to open the window to let the air in),a thai guy who's running a business in the States,and an Italian TV editor (pictured with me above)... well, of course not all at the same time! There are only 2bunk beds! I was there long enough to meet all this people; guess that's the experince of staying in a hostel and it's well worth it. No privacy; no bathroom in the room; no breakfast.. but it was cheap so no complains for me (that is so rare for a sporean ;p ) Not everyone's cup of tea for sure. How central was it? Walk 10blocks, you reach Madison Square, a few blocks away is Macy's followed by the Empire State building, and yeah, just another 10-15mins walk is Times Square... how fantastic is that? Btw, there's free internet at TImes Square at the Tourist Office; and if you need a leak, pop by this huge Toys 'R Us with an indoor ferris wheel!! Another place for free internet is at the Apple Store at SoHo.. lots of Macs for you to surf for FREE! - my fav four letter word- FREE!! More free tips, some museums are free on fridays.I went MoMa for free but there were so many people. Even though it was free, I'd probably pay just to go in for the cool museum with really great exhibits... a definite must-see!!

Spent the weekend of my US trip in Washington DC. Took the 645am train to Philadelphia; followed by a 3hr road trip to DC... I was in DC at noon. Plenty of museums in DC and all of them were free!! My kinda place, definitely!! I did the tour thingy where basically you ride around in a bus with a narrator and you get on and off as and when you find something interesting. Saw the White House; its smaller than what I had expected.

I sat on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial overlooking the reflection pool;and thinking to myself I cant believe Im actually in DC! I meant Ive seen it on Discovery Channel; and now Im there for real; totally unbelievable. I am truly blessed to experience all this wonderful experiences...

NEW YORK BABY!!!!
I still cant believe that I was in new york; the city that i've always wanted to visit since foreva. Initially hesitant to even step onto US soil (stories of US customs obviously didnt help) but the MAS offer of $818(before tax) to nyc was simply irrestible.i was plannin my annual vacation way back in march; and there really wasnt anywhere else i was dying to go. I have been to europe;Japan was a close second on my list of places i wana visit.So I went ahead to book the airtix on de last few days of its promotion online; and there was no lookin back...literally.

The days leading to my departure was a hectic time at work and I didnt plan as detailed an itinerary as i wanted. I was not feelin anxious about the whole trip although a week to go to my trip,I have yet to pack and even find a luggage!! Perhaps that i have travelled a lot helped de anxiety of packing. In retrospect, a few darn essentials was missing in my bag and that was moisturizer and the most important, eye-drops! The weather there was cold and very dry. I kinda had to "borrow" some moisturizer from my roommate in the hostel I was stayin at. And thanks to Kevin for the eye-drops (dude i think my tuna-sandwich is still in your friend's fridge!!)..more on that later...

So off i went on the longest-furthest trip of my life with the most trustworthy guide book in the world- lonely planet in my backpack. Yups, 20hours till I get there so I had plenty of time to plan my itinerary. Wrong, Mr Lazy had to watch the on-flight movies and sleep... and 20 hours later with 2 stop-overs(KL & Stockholm; no one told me we had 2 stopovers!! glad we did tho; it was too long a flight for it to go direct)...i was in new york!!

Customs was surprising kinda a breeze except the fact no one told me to fill up that green visa-waiver form. I had to go and fill up the form and rejoin the queue!!A slight hitch but surprisingly not as bad as i had expected. And yes they scanned my fingerprints & took a snapshot of me...

I landed at Newark Liberty Airport and took the pre-arranged Supershuttle to my hostel. I booked my transfer and my accommodation prior to my arrival as I wanted to have a hassle-free vacation; especially important when you're staying at a hostel for 10 nites otherwise they can't guarantee a bed for your entire stay.

The airport transfer took you from across the river and through a narrow tunnel to Manhanttan. From inside the Supershuttle Blue Van, I could see New York from the distance. It was a strange feeling for me; I knew I was supposed to be excited, but i was all relaxed and casual about the entire situation. Maybe because the Empire State building wasn't as tall as I imagined it to be; maybe because it was all too familiar; you see her(NYC) on tv constantly, maybe she wont fulfill your expecatations... New York no longer was just a city to visit; she has become a character, a person that you wanted to get to know. A person or even a celebrity if you want to put it; you see her on tv and now, meeting her for the first time, you find her she's really down-to-earth... I simply cannot wait to know her more....

Intolerable... yeah, im becomin more intolerable of anyone and everyone.. just cant stand people no more.. especially those tat are late, those whom u sms but dun bother sms-ing back, people who cut into my lane while im driving, those tat flash high beam at me, packed MRT trains, stupid people who still stand on de right hand side of de escalators, Shitty Bus Service(SBS) drivers who drives de bus like some rally car (yeah, i only walk to de exit when the bus has come to a complete stop;make de driver wait for me for all i care),... heck lah.. tat makes it all u bloody singaporeans aka BS aka bull shitss.... seriously, i luv singa(BORE) but take away de singaporeans please.. oh no, will some spore official make me retract my statement on de blog which is supposed to be free of censorship, make me apologize to all sporeans, heck if i had my way, i leave this country for all tat matters. the country tat forces me to train for my fitness, the country tat wasted 2 years of my life and still being imprisoned by them while others come in and get a free ride with no hardship of serving de country.. de country tat hasnt done much for me; but to make me intolerable day in and day out.

I long to travel... travel anywhere. I just wana get out of singapore. I keep telling june i wana go bangkok, hong kong, etc... but i neva do anything about it. Inertia seems to have gotten the better of me these days... I can pretty much sit in front of the computer and let the world go by. Finally sent out a few resumes earlier. Im more selective in my job choices coz i do wana work for a longer period.

Job vs travel... mabe i shld just be a cabin crew. If i was younger, yah perhaps.. NOw, i wan a job tat pays well. Kinda got into the wrong line of design where its long freakin hours, and such miserable low pay... i do have a plan of how to overcome tat, just need to be at de right place and at the right time; which i neva am...

okok.. back to travelling. i guess i wana go places where i have frens, so i can bunk in. all those darn cheap budget airlines aint cheap in de end becoz of ridiculous taxes. I was checkin a trip to HK.. yah yah.. $45 one way. then when u add up taxes, its almost $200 !!! Im on a budget, mabe ill probably end up traveliin to KL.. then fly to bkk, then from bkk to hk.. haha.. kaching.. heard my money makin machine in de background..

where did my new year resolution of being more pro-active gone? mabe down the drain as wif my luck in work, love,life... blah blah....

Three lost + bored guys... haha

Actually it was quite a day of adventure. Showed aparup & june this vacant house at portsdown road. A tad spooky but i guess the nearness of it to HDB flats just didnt really spooked me out tat much. Its those colonial black and white 3 storey house. Posing at the railway tracks was kinda fun but kinda dangerous.. dun ya remember ur mom tellin u not to play at railway tracks; nah. i didnt live near no railway lines. Went off to ikea for tea/dinner.. and so many things were revealed eg my blog which i thought only has june and yati aka tea as its readers, only to be informed this blog has travelled wide and far... haha.. come to think of it, if its true, i did reach the correct demographic... lolz

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve... always wanted to go and finally got to visit it. It is extremely inaccessible, unless of course one drives. Seems like the increase in petrol prices is making me wana travel less by car these days; although i will only top-up $3 worth of petrol.
Back to the wetland, my main objective is obviously to test my new camera. The verdict: the pictures turned out gr8! Except when i view the pics i see some jaggedness. I really hope its the jpeg compression. Will check the compression of my camera later...

Kranji Farm

Boredom led us all the way to spore's countryside... boredom and the fact tat there was a free shuttle bus service. And as with all free things, they make you worked for it. Me and june were searching high and low for the pick-up point. There was a useless sign at the Boon Lay MRT station tat had an arrow pointing to nowhere. We actually gave up; went for coffee, walked around Jurong Point. Then we decided to take the free bus to IMM and once again, had no clue where the pick-up point was. That was when we saw the free bus to the farms.. the irony.
Pretty glad we went on this farm trip coz we got to visit the Sungei Buloh wetland Reserve. Really nice place. Simply lovely...

Wanted to get those handheld vacuum cleaner at COurts but the one they had on offer was no more.So i didnt get it. Then we went to King Albert Park's Mc Donalds for aparup to have his dinner. He signed up for this Rewards thingy and he got a free hamburger..

TIme to ditch hotmail & IE

Yups, its time to ditch that horrendous hotmail. They say they gona up the inbox to 250mb for people livin in the states! Nah, though the interface looks better than yahoo, ive found a new better email - Gmail. Ive always had an account but neva used it; found out they have free forwarding. Now, ive multiple Gmail accounts.. but i only need to check one!!! HOw cool is tat.. and did i mention the forwarding is FREE... plus 1Gig of space. Compare tat to hotmail 2Mb,tats like tons mo space. Eventually, they will probably up it to 250Mb for everyone. I aint gona wait.

There's more!!!... they got dis cool Gmail notifier tat lets me know if i got mail right on my browser. No irritatin pop-ups, or having to log on to MSN messenger.

And i cant believe people are using IE... oh please.. get FIrefox or Opera. They are free.. and very secure. They got skins, extensions, tab-browsing....

For heaven's sake people, lest u using a MAC... ditch microsoft stuffs if u can.. hehe...

Sleepless in Spore

Two aimless guys with nowhere to go. Serious when u got no idea where to go;there really aint nowhere to go. Had a cool new camera and just no idea what to take...

"Labrador park?" ... nah too dark,too spooky
"Changi hospital?" ... ummzz too far, petrol aint cheap these days

Finally, after spending almost an hour playing with the camera at a carpark behind IKEA store,we set off to Sporttiswode Park... heck,no idea how to spell it. Pretty cool place with the old Peranakan-styled shophouses. Came acorss a lodge (super..supser-cool;envy, envy...) and a railway track which is really awesome to take pictures. Sat at this 24hrs coffeeshop drinking teh halia and figuring out the features of the my d70. At least we figured out most like buffering,getting rid of the flash,etc... just left to find out how depth of field works... must read de darn thick manual. Ahh... I just hate to read technical stuffs. On way home,stopped by my aunt's flower showcase at G@llery Hotel. Its good to see that she still is keeping the place updated. Considering to showcase some of photography works there as well... its just an idea... well, u gotta start somewhere

Gosh,it brings back memories when i was there.The neighbourhood was in the midst of being upgraded. I remember vaguely the place. It must be like 10years..or even more. I cant really recall when i moved to my existing apartment. Not gona get all emotional and nostalgic....

I just got to get this off my chest.

I was on the phone yesterday over this topic, saying that i wont be a fren of someone who goes out with a married man.Im totally fine if they are just frens, which unfortunately has evolved into the gal calling the married guy her boyfriend. And she has the cheek to say the wife knows about it and accepts it. Sadly,this involves a young baby, not more than a year old. There the husband is going out with my "fren" on dates, movies, parks, god knows wat else... while the poor wife is at home looking after the baby.You just cant help tat the husband aka bastard (tat is wat i shall refer him as) is treating the wife as a freaking maid (Fren is in inverted commas coz i dun regret sluts,whores as frens... bitches are another breed altogether. i can be frens with bitches coz heck, im one!!! ) No good can come up of this bizzarre relationship. Bizzare coz found out from my fren tat the wife actually asked the hubby to spend time wif his galfren... ??!!!

I hope my fren .. i mean "fren" wakes up her freaking idea. She's an adult so she should know better.It takes two hands to clap. SO walk away from this ridiculous r/ship.. there's a baby involved for heaven's sake.

A rare glimpse of my room.Well, aint really tat rare coz so many people have been in it ever since i redid it.. . how things look different when placed differently.

Anyways, the aim of the pictures were to test my new camera -d70. Heard so many problems encountered by people who got it. Tested it for backfocus problem,pictures coming out dull & dark from the camera. So far the pictures turned out bright enough for me. The focusing thing i aint tat sure as my room was kinda dark the last couple of days due to rain. At least now the sun is out.

Well, gonna play with the new camera some more. Getting a dry cabinet to protect it from dust & fungus later in the evening.

Celebrated Minglai's 27th birthday at Sofra Beach Rd. The food wasn't tat bad but wished the portions were more generous. Had our desserts at this really cool arabic-themed restaurant at Arab Street. Cant remember the name; think its Somar or something.... Our birthday celebrations are always kinda subdued. Well mabe the people are subdued... ??!!!
